- Betty Pontious Turner Combs was born to Neda and Elvin Pontious in Logotee, Illinois on July 29, 1926. She graduated from Brownstown High School and married Max Turner on June 13, 1945. They had two children, Steven Max and Brenda Sue. Betty and Max were divorced in 1963. She married Sgt. Charles D. Combs on August 10, 1965. Charles left for Vietnam shortly after they married and on his return to the states lived in San Francisco and later transferred to Heidelberg, Germany where they spent many happy years exploring Europe. They returned to the states and settled in Massachusetts. Charles retired from the Army as a MSG and they retired to Arizona in 1979. Betty worked for the Federal government for over 30 years and retired in 1998. Betty has 2 surviving sisters, Doris Parker and Jane Miller and two surviving brothers Bud Pontious and Ronnie Pontious. She has two surviving children Brenda Hensley and Steven Turner and Charles had 3 children, Kathy, Terry and Gene. Betty and Charles had 5 grandchildren: Marty, Jesse and Brandon Turner, Jason Hensley and Jaime Sheeks and 4 great grandchildren: Noah and Luke Hensley, Kane and Cami Sheeks. Charles preceded her in death on June 8, 2010. They are missed.

Betty A. (Pontious) Combs of Surprise, Ariz., and formerly of Fayette County, died on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, in her home.
A private family burial will be at a later date.
Mrs. Combs was retired from the government as a secretary.
She is survived by children, Steve Turner of Gilberts, and Brenda Hensley of Surprise, Ariz.; five grandchildren, all of Surprise, Ariz.; four great-great-grandchildren, all of Surprise, Ariz.; siblings, Bud Pontious of Vandalia, Jane Miller of Vandalia, Ronnie Pontious of Gilberts and Doris Parker of Fairfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Master Sgt. C.D. Combs; and parents.
