  Rena M. Carpenter, 92, of Flora, IL died at 6:31 PM Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Clay County Hospital in Flora, IL. She was born June 14, 1919 in Bridgeport, CT to Christian and Stella Marquardt. She married Howard D. "Duke" Carpenter on June 14, 1938 in Groton, CT. He preceded her in death on August 13, 2000. Rena was a good Christian person who loved and talked about her grandkids all the time. She yearned to travel and had been to almost every state in the U.S. She is survived by sons: Tom Carpenter and wife Lou Ann of Louisville, Chris Carpenter of Flora, Rod Carpenter and wife Jonah of Flora, Terry Carpenter and life partner Donna Beason of Mattoon; daughter: Linda Powers and husband Allen of Olney; 6 grandchildren: Janie (Brad) Krutsinger, Jeremy (Angela) Carpenter, Anthony Carpenter, Jessica Carpenter, Wesley (Erin) Powers, Amanda (friend Alan Gill) Powers; 5 great grandchildren: Asia, Triston, Stella, Dawson and Devon. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Funeral services will be held at Frank & Bright Funeral Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
