    Lawrence J. Mitchell, 83, of Noble, died at 3:27 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at Burgin Manor in Olney.

    Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rollie Sarver and Dale Parker officiating. Burial will be in Hanna Cemetery in rural Noble.

    Mr. Mitchell was born on February 29, 1920, in Richland County, the son of Thomas Edmond and Ola (Fulk) Mitchell. He married Leona Maxine Thatcher on June 23, 1941, in St. Louis, Mo. She survives.

    He was a retired carpenter and a member of Local Union #634 in Salem.

    Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Leona Mitchell, of Noble; three sons, Leroy Mitchell and his wife, Frances, of Noble, Wayne Mitchell and his wife, Loretta, of Noble, and Perry Mitchell and his wife, Regina, of Claremont; eight grandchildren, Kevin Mitchell and his wife, LaNae, Buck Mitchell and his wife, Becky, Shawna (Mitchell) Hill and her
    husband, John, Kendra Mitchell, Kent Mitchell, Brandon Mitchell, Brock Mitchell and Bryce Mitchell; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Mitchell, Dylan Mitchell, Cody Mitchell and Haley Mitchell; two brothers, Charles Mitchell and Thomas "Tom" Mitchell, both of Noble; and five sisters, Lois (Mitchell) Hagen, of Noble, Maxine (Mitchell)
    Fryburger, of Noble, Kathleen (Mitchell) Hagen, of Flora, Ruth (Mitchell) O'Brien, of Bunker Hill, and Kay (Mitchell) Miller, of Noble.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Beulah (Mitchell) Brown, and five infant brothers and sisters.

    Memorials may be made to Richland Memorial Hospital Foundation.

    Wayne "Wad" Mitchell, 73, of Noble, Illinois, died on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

    Wayne was born on February 5, 1948 in Olney, Illinois, the son of Lawrence J. Mitchell and Leona Maxine (Thacher). He married Loretta (Hemrich) on May 24, 1969 in Noble, IL, and she survives.

    Wayne was a US Army First Calvary Veteran of the Vietnam War. Wayne was a self-employed contractor with Souder & Mitchell Construction with his partner Dennis Souder. He specialized in plumbing and HVAC. Wayne enjoyed driving in Demolition Derbies with his sons and nephews and had won several Derby trophies. In his younger years, he coached his sons' baseball teams and All-Stars. Wayne also took pleasure in farming and caring for his and Loretta's dogs and horses. He also enjoyed going to the grandkids' activities and spending time with his family. Wayne liked to go out to eat and try new places. Wayne was a selfless man who would help anybody. His kind and carefree heart will be greatly missed.

    Wayne is survived by his wife of 52 years, Loretta M. Mitchell; son, Kevin Mitchell and wife LaNae of Noble; son, "Buck" Curtis Mitchell and wife Becky of Noble; daughter, Shawna Hill of Noble; grandchildren, Jessica Mitchell, Dylan Mitchell, Alex Mitchell, Cody Mitchell, Haley Mitchell, Jaron Hill, and Ashley Hill; special niece, Daryla (Nathan) Harper and children, Christopher Brant and Megan (Wes) Hagan; great grandchildren, Brendan Weir, Liam Mitchell, and Sawyer Mitchell; brothers, Leroy (Frances) Mitchell and Perry Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.

    Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Regina Mitchell.

    A Visitation will be held for friends and family on Monday, August 16, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kistler Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.

    A Funeral Service will be held for Wayne at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.

    Interment will follow at Hanna Cemetery in Noble, with Full Military Rites to be performed at the graveside.

    Memorials can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
