    Notes:

    Harold E. Abbott, 93, of Sailor Springs, IL, passed away Tuesday, March 12th, at the Burge House in Flora.

    Harold was born on November 1, 1919 in Richland County, Illinois, the son of George Abbott and Maude Mae Luke. He married Norma Franklin on December 20, 1943 in Clay County.

    Harold served in the Army during WWII and was a charter member of the Sailor Springs American Legion. He enjoyed watching baseball and basketball. Harold was a full time oilfield worker and supplemented his income by working on his 30 acre farm.

    He is survived by his wife, Norma Abbott; son, Steve Abbott; son, James Abbot; a granddaughter, Ashley Bank; a grandson, Westley Abbott; great-grandchildren, Tate Abbott, Reese Abbott, Ripley Abbott, and Henry Banks.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, George Abbott Jr., and two sisters, Genelle Hance and Lorena Dehart.

    Funeral Service was held at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City.

    Burial at Dillman Cemetery, in Sailor Springs, IL, with Full Military Rites.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on January 21, 1942 at Camp Grant, Illinois. Selected for the Coast Artillery Corps, completed basic training and qualified in the military occupational specialty of light truck driver (345). After a 19 month deployment abroad at Destination 'Silver' in 1942 - 1943, assigned to and served with Battery D (Harbor Defense), 6th Coast Artillery Regiment in the San Francisco, California area. Earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on October 10, 1945 at the separation point, Fort Winfield Scott, California.

    Notes:

    He was employed at Hoffmans in Orleans from 1966 until the company moved to northern Illinois in 1970. He then went to work at Hubbard TV in Bedford until going to Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Detachment, as an electronic technician working in sonar bouys until retiring in 2015.

    Jim graduated from Clay City High School, Illinois, in 1963 and electronics school in Louisville, Kentucky in 1965. He was a train enthusiast and traveled around the country with Carol photographing trains. Jim also enjoyed gardening. Jim was a member of Bedford Masonic Lodge No. 14 F. & A. M., a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Sahara Grotto Valley of Indianapolis. He attended Spice Valley Baptist Church.

    Funeral:
    Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 20, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center, with Pastor Val Foughty-Killion officiating.

    Harold James "Jim" Abbott, 72, passed away Monday, April 16, 2018, at his residence.

    Buried:
    Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
