Loren G. Coble, 86, of Flora, IL died at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Flora Rehab & Health Care Center in Flora.

Mr. Coble was born February 18, 1924 in Rantoul, IL, the son of Roscoe and Ella (Souder) Coble.

He grew up on a small farm on the banks of the Little Wabash River in Clay County, IL where he attended a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from the eighth grade. It seems the school was miles from the farm, up hill both ways and normally in deep snow.

Mr. Coble worked in the oil field in Texas and Louisiana before entering the Army and serving in Europe during WWII. His primary duties were as a motorcycle mounted MP and included escort work for General Eisenhower and operations in France. Before leaving for Europe he married Juanita Pittman on February 23, 1943 in Flora, IL. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Mr. Coble began a long career in the auto parts business in Flora, including work at the Chevrolet dealership, Eaton's Auto Parts and Lincoln Parts. After retirement, Mr. Coble worked part time at Halliburton and the Flora Medical Center, and also volunteered as a bus driver for cancer patients.

He was member of the First Christian Church where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. He served over 20 years in leadership positions in the Boy Scouts of America where his natural rapport with young people and his lead by example style was a perfect fit. Loren Coble was a devoted father and grandfather, who always had a story and never met a stranger.

Survivors include one daughter Vickie Jones, one son Robert Coble; five grandchildren: Jennifer Dotson, Thomas Jones III, Michael Jones, Erin Coble and Tracy Coble; seven great-grandchildren: Lauren Dotson, Trey Dotson, Katie Dotson, Ana Elise Jones, Thomas Jones IV, Elizabeth Jones, and Brody Jones; one sister, Virginia Peak of Mattoon, IL.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Juanita, one brother Orvis, and one sister Eunice Milone.

A graveside service was held at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora, IL with military honors.

Frank & Bright Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials to the Boy Scouts of America Troop #282.

Loren married Pittman, Juanita in 1943. Juanita was born in 1919; died in 1994. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
