    Shirley worked for Charleston Engineering for over 20 years. She was a faithful member of Mt. Gilead Church. Shirley was the church clerk and taught Sunday School for many years. Shirley loved flowers and kept a beautiful yard. She enjoyed attending Gospel concerts with her husband and friends. On Sundays, the family would gather at Shirley's house for dinner. Shirley had a special place in her heart for her grandson, Johnathan.

    Carolyn D. Kermicle, 86, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital.

    Carolyn was born on March 30, 1937 in Jasper County, IL, the daughter of Merritt D. and Evelyn B. (McDowell) Semple. She married Paul Kermicle on December 30, 1956 at Mt. Gilead Church. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2021.

    Carolyn was very passionate about her faith, family and home. She was a founding member of Faith Bible Church and faithfully attended. She loved playing piano and even performed in her final years for the caregivers who stayed with her and great grandchildren who would visit. She loved gospel music and enjoyed attending Gospel concerts with her husband and friends. On many Sundays, the family would gather at Carolyn's house for lunch where everyone would enjoy her famous dinner rolls and excellent meals. She also had a feisty wit about her that kept everyone on their toes! Finally, Carolyn and her family were so thankful for the wonderful caregivers who took care of her at home and provided companionship during the difficult time after the loss of her husband. They were truly angels to all of us!

    Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul of 63 years and her twin sister Shirley J. (Semple) Snider.

    Carolyn is survived by her son, John Kermicle and wife Tineke of Olney, IL; daughter, Ruth Brazitis and husband Gary of Noblesville, IN; son, David Kermicle and wife Tammy of Dundas, IL; grandchildren, Taylor (Emily) Kermicle, Kate (Matt) Jones, Madalyn (Mitchell) Schonert, Nicholas Brazitis, Michael Brazitis, Christina Kermicle, Keith (Chelsea) Kermicle, and Kevin Kermicle; great grandchildren, Brayden, Rowen, Myles, Nora, Sullivan, Bode, Maelyn; and several nieces and nephews.

    A visitation for Carolyn will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2023, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. Services will also be at Kistler-Patterson on Monday, June 26, 2023, at 10:00 am with interment to follow the service at Crest Haven Memorial Park in Claremont, Illinois.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Faith Bible Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
