    Notes:

    Edwin Pearce, age 94, of Flora, Illinois, passed away on Saturday morning, April 25, 2015, at Heritage Woods in Flora.

    Edwin was born February 28, 1921 in Flora to Charles and Goldia (Dobbs) Pearce. He married Berniece Smith on October 22, 1950 in Vineland, NJ. She preceded him in death on May 27, 2009.

    Edwin proudly served his country as an U.S. Army Infantryman on the front lines in WWII, earning 3 purple hearts. Edwin traveled much of the United States as a pipeline welder and enjoyed raising cattle. Memberships included Flora VFW, American Legion, Flora Masonic Lodge, and was a 66 year member of Pipeliners Union 798 in Tulsa, OK.

    Edwin is survived by his children: Judy (Larry) Griffith of Mt. Erie, Walterene Pearce of Xenia, Chuck (Martha) Pearce of Flora, Phil (Janet) Pearce of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Shirley (Mike) Bily of Urbana; a brother: Bill (Joan) Pearce of Flora; 23 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son: Raymond Pearce, five brothers: Norman, Kenneth, Richard Pearce, twin infant brothers, one sister: Vivian Fitzgerald, and three great-grandchildren.

    A funeral service for Edwin Pearce was held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora.

    Interment was in Kneff Cemetery, Flora, with military honors.

    Memorial donations to Clay County Hospice or Clay County Animal Rescue and Shelter (CCARS).

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on December 3, 1943 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Trained as a Rifleman (military occupational specialty 745) and departed the Continental U.S. on May 13, 1944 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Assigned to Company C, 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry 'Old Hickory' Division and fought with them through the Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Wounded by enemy action 3 times in October and November of 1944 and in January of 1945, after which he was sent to the U.S. for treatment. Returned to the European Theater on March 11, 1945 and rejoined his unit in combat for the duration. Earned The Purple Heart Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 bronze battle stars and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Private 1st Class on November 29, 1945 at Camp Grant, Illinois.

    Vivian Fitzgerald, 87, of Flora, IL, departed this life on February 22, 2010.

    She was born September 6, 1922 in Flora, IL, the daughter of Charles and Goldie (Dobbs) Pearce. She married Carl Fitzgerald on November 17, 1940 in Charleston, MO. He preceded her in death on March 13, 1991. They were the parents of one son, Ronnie Fitzgerald, who departed this life in 1988.

    Vivian spent her entire life in the Flora area, having worked at International Shoe Company for 24 years, and was the manager of Fashion Lane for 10 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Win-A-Couple Class of the church. Vivian enjoyed her family.

    She is survived by 2 granddaughters: Shelly Makame of Indianapolis, IN and Ann Fogarty & husband Ed of Washington, IN; 3 brothers: Edwin Pearce of Flora, Kenneth Pearce of Flora, and Bill Pearce & wife Joan of Flora; 8 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in by her parents, husband, one son (Ronnie), and 2 brothers (Norman & Dick).

    Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Wednesday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church and may be received at the funeral home.

    Mr. Pearce was born July 22, 1927 in Flora to Charles Edwin Pearce Sr. and Goldie Atherton (Dobbs) Pearce. In 1949 he married Joan P. Perry in Reno, NV. She preceded him in death in 1998.

    Kenneth was a supervisor/sales manager for Dr. Pepper Bottling Company in San Francisco, CA for 33 years, served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, had attended Harmony United Methodist Church, and was a member of Flora VFW Post #3999, Flora American Legion Post #14, and Flora Masonic Lodge.

    He is survived by 3 step-daughters: Patricia Grisler, Frances Hartel , Alberta Robins; 2 grandsons: Jesse and Christopher Pearce; 2 brothers: Charles Edwin Pearce of Flora and William "Bill" Pearce.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, children (Kenneth Ray Pearce Jr. and Debra Lynn Pearce), 2 brothers (Norman & Richard Henry Pearce), and 1 sister (Vivian O. Fitzgerald).

    A graveside service for Mr. Pearce were held at Kneff Cemetery, Flora, with military honors presented at the conclusion of the service.

    Visitation was held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother (Norman Pearce).

    Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday (December 5, 2009) at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Burial will be in Kneff Cemetery, Flora. Visitation will be from 1 PM until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.

    Burial will be in Red Brush Cemetery in Louisville. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
