    Entered active service as a draftee on November 11, 1942 at Camp Grant, Illinois. Selected for the Field Artillery, completed basic training and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Heavy Machine Gunner (605). Assigned to Batterery B, 230th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th 'Old Hickory' Infantry Division. Continued training at Camp Blanding, Florida; Camp Forrest, Tennessee and Camp Atterbury, Indiana and then departed with his unit for the European Theater of Operations on February 12, 1944. Entered combat via Omaha Beach on D-Day Plus 4 and fought through the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 silver battle star, WWII Victory Medal, Army Of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the French Croix de Guerre. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on October 20, 1945 at the Separation Center, Camp Grant, Illinois.

    CLAY CITY - - Mrs. Earl (Ruby J. Fry) Carlyle, 47, of Flora died Thursday at her home. She was the mother of Mrs. Larry (Nancy) Presley of Effingham.

    The funeral will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Clay City Baptist Church, with burial in Clay City Cemetry.

    Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Cardascio Funeral Home in Clay City.

    Friends may also call after noon on Monday at the church.

    Andrew Dale Fry, 74, of Clay City, IL, died at 6:55 AM, Monday, February 4, 2008 at his residence.

    He was born on February 27, 1933 to Charlie & Katie (Howe) Fry in Mt. Erie, IL. He married Thelma Sharp on November 19, 1955 in Wayne County, IL.

    Dale was a member of the VFW. He served in the United States Army. Dale loved being on the farm, helping out his grandchildren, and spending time with his family and his beagle, Callahan.

    He is survived by his wife: Thelma Fry; two sons: Roy Dale and Rodger Harrison Fry; two daughters: Linda Gail Fry, Pamela Sue Butler; Grandchildren: Carla Sue Kaiser, Shawn Marie Snyder, Charles Andrew Abernathy, Sutton Barrett Abernathy, Ryan Neal Sigler, Travis Michael Sigler, Nathaniel James Butler; Great Grandchildren: Colton Blain Umstead, Evan James Kaiser, Caden Russell Snyder; brother: James "Bill" Fry; sisters: Dorothy Herman and Joyce Sue Winters.

    Funeral services were held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.

    Interment was at Clay City Cemetery.

    Memorial to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois.

    James "Billy" Fry, 83, of Clay City, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 at his residence.

    Billy was born on January 2, 1935 in Mt. Erie, IL, the son of Charlie and Katie (Howe) Fry.

    He married Linda (Granby) on February 6, 1982 in Olney, IL.

    Billy is survived by his wife of 36 years, Linda Fry of Clay City; son, James W. Fry and fiancee ,Sherry York, of Hatfield, AR; son, Donald E. Fry and friend, Sherry Evilsizer, of Flora, IL; daughter, Caralyn Riley and husband, John ,of Clay City, IL; daughter, Sandy Rodgers and husband, Carrol, of Cisne, IL; step-daughter, Angela Ash and husband, Dave, of Plainfield, IN; 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Sue Winters and husband, Frank, of Caryville, TN, and Dorothy Smith of Springfield, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.

    Memorials can be made to Shriner's Children’s Hospital or St. Jude’s or Bethlehem Christian Church.

    A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Clay City. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Bethlehem Christian Church in Clay City, with burial following in the Clay City Cemetery. Full Military Rites will be performed at the graveside.
