- Kizzie Faye (Stanford) Zook, 93, of Salina, Ks died Thursday, April 9, 2009. She was born Oct. 10, 1915, in Louisville, Ill., to Kizzie (James) and Harry S. Stanford, the middle child of five girls. She married David Allen Zook, of St. Louis, son of Wilhemina (Bryan) and Daniel F. Zook, in 1934.
Mrs. Zook was an educator, teaching in Illinois and in Kansas for USD 305 as an elementary teacher and reading specialist. She attended McKendree College, Lebanon, Mo., and graduated from Marymount College, Salina, with a B.A. degree. She received her M.A. and Reading Specialist degrees from Kansas State University, Manhattan. Mrs. Zook was a member and past Elder of First Christian Church, Salina. She participated in many related church and education organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, in 1983; three sisters, Virginia (Charles) Wrasse, Madge (John) Crackel and Dorothy (Lannes) Bufkin; an infant son, David Allen Jr., in 1936; and a grandson, Jeremy Loy Witters, in 1991. Survivors include her sisters, Cornelia (Raymond) Skelton, of Springfield, Ill.; two sons, David H. (Hui Yon Park) Zook and Daniel C. (Rita) Zook, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four daughters, Mary Virginia (Warren) Bevan, of Salina, Cornelia F. (Dan) Witters, of Clay Center, Lavina J. (Robert) Diaz, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Kathleen S. (James) Johnson, of Salina; 16 grandchildren, Charla (Bevan) Jones (Rick), Michael (Ruth Anne) Bevan, Julie (Bevan) Banning (Kent), Mark (Kim) Witters, Jill (Witters) Metcalf (Jeff), John (Tonya) Zook, Danny (Jane) Zook, Emily Diaz, Alissa Diaz, Sara (Diaz) Christopher (Ric), Brent (Shanna) Diaz, David Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Jamie Zook and Forre Zook; and 16 great-grandchildren, Judah Banning, Lauren Bevan, Joseph Banning, Colin Bevan, Jessica Banning, Ian Bevan, Micaela Jones, Nathan Witters, Zachary Witters, J'Cee Metcalf, Riley Zook, Jaxen Zook, Charlie Zook, Sarah Zook, Brayden Diaz and Jack Christopher; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral and Celebration of Life service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at First Christian Church, 2727 E. Crawford, Salina, with the Reverends Kim Blakely and Greg Lombard Rea officiating. A graveside ceremony will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the church or Hospice of Salina, 730 Holly Lane, Salina.
