  He was a high school teacher for 33 years, a football coach, track coach, and in his early years a basketball coach, working for 26 years with Oblong High School, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Oblong, Robinson Elks, was an avid golfer at Quail Creek Country Club, and was a member of Illinois High School Football Assoc., and was inducted into the Hall of Fame on April 7, 1990. He did his undergraduate studies at S.I.U. in Carbondale, and received his masters from E.I.U. in Charleston.
