    Entered active service as a draftee on March 22, 1945 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Selected for the Ordnance Corps, completed basic training and qualified in the Military Occupational Specialty of Fuel Induction Mechanic (926). Departed the Continental U.S. on October 23, 1945 bound for the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. Assigned to and served with the 99th Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Company (field artillery) in the army of occupation in Japan. Earned the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation (Japan) Medal. Honorably discharged as a Technician 4th Grade on November 27, 1946 at the Separation Center, Fort Lewis, Washington.

    Mary H. Waggoner, 72, of West Salem, IL died January 31, 2006, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, IL.

    Mrs. Waggoner was born December 2, 1933, in Lawrenceville, the daughter of John J. and Nora Barnett McCracken. She married Gordon C. Ford November 11, 1956 and he preceded her in death in 1964. She later married Clarence Waggoner December 31, 1966 in Xenia and he preceded her in death December 5, 2002.

    Mrs. Waggoner was a homemaker and an artist and she enjoyed doing arts and crafts and collecting dolls.

    She was affiliated with the Xenia Christian Church and Clay City Baptist Church.

    Survivors include her children, Mary Lou Hayes, Gordon C. Ford, Connie Sharp, Tina Huddlestun, and Clarann Worthey; two sisters Nancy Carpenter and Sally Pickford; 19 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, three brothers, three sisters, one grandson, and one granddaughter.

    Funeral services were held at Frank and Bright Funeral Home with burial in Oskaloosa Cemetery.
