    Herbert Byers, 89, of Iola died Feb. 12, 2005, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.

    He was born Aug. 27, 1915, in Iola, the son of James H. and Gertrude "Gertie" Pemberton Byers. He married Betty J. Livingood Nov. 20, 1948 in Edgewood.

    He was a retired farmer and oil field worker, a member of Calvary Apostolic Tabernacle in Iola, and was a World War II U. S. Army Veteran.

    Survivors include his wife; six sons, Billy, John, Tom, Calvin, Lonnie and Terry Byers; two brothers, Bernard and Avon Byers; one sister, Betty Burgess; 19 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

    Preceding him in death were his parents, one son, Jerry L. Byers; five brothers, Herschel, Lawson, Howard, Harold and Lowell, and four sisters, Nina Durre, Zella Gibson, Helen Gibson, and Lois Harper.

    Funeral services were held at Calvary Apostolic Tabernacle in Iola with burial in Iola Cemetery with military rites.

    Memorials may be made to the church.
