    Entered active service on July 13, 1941. As a Private 1st Class with the 13th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, entered combat a month after D-Day. Killed in action during hedgerow warfare on July 13, 1943 near St. Lo, France. Awarded The Purple Heart Medal posthumously and otherwise entitled to The American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 bronze battle star, and The WWII Victory Medal. Later, buried with military honors in Stipps Cemetery, Oskaloosa Township, Clay County, Illinois. Honored also at the WWII Memorial in Flora, Illinois.
