Julius Manring, 80, of Xenia, Dies
Julius Linza Manring, 80, of rural Xenia, a retired plant guard and farmer, died at 6:40 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia.
Mr. Manring entered the hospital Christmas Day, 1983, suffering from the infirmities of age and a stroke. He was a resident of the Oden Care Center at Oden since 1976.
Services Held
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the New Church-Pentecostal at Orchardville with Rev. Louie Sharp officiating. Burial was in New Church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Richardson Funeral Home at Wayne City.
Mr. Manring was born in Orchard township, Wayne County, Nov. 18, 1893, the son of Alvin Leslie "A.L." and Ella (Bush) Manring. He was educated at Orchardville School.
He was married to the former May Sons in Orchardville in 1926. She preceded him in death Aug. 13, 1970.
During the 1930's, Mr. and Mrs. Manring operated the telephone switchboard service in Geff. They later lived in East St. Louis while Mr. Manring was employed as a guard with Monsanto Chemical Company. The Manrings returned to Xenia in 1955 following his retirement. Mr. Manring engaged in light farming until becoming a resident of the nursing home.
Mr. Manring was employed for 15 years as a guard with the Monsanto Co. in Suaget. He was president of the International Guard Union during this time.
He was a member of the New church-Pentecostal at Orchardville.
The Survivors
Survivors include two daughters, . . .; five sons, . . .; one brother, Tony Manring, of Wayne city; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
