Gary was born December 24, 1941, in Xenia, the son of Byron and Ruth (Stanford) Anderson. He married Deana (Gaines) Herdes on October 25, 1973 in Flora.

Gary graduated from Flora High School in 1960 and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1964, receiving an honorable discharge. Following his service in the Air Force, he worked at Sparton Manufacturing and then for Halliburton and Dowell Oil companies. He also owned his own business, Briscoe’s Farm Store. Gary then started working as a short haul semi-truck driver, a job that was a perfect fit for him.

He was a member of Clay County Farm Bureau, a past member of Clay County Bass Club, a past Flora City Commissioner, and attended Flora Church of the Nazarene. Gary enjoyed talking to friends at the coffee shop, Walmart, or anywhere he went. He also loved to go bass fishing, tell corny jokes, listen to country music, and watch old western movies. Gary loved life, his family, and his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife: Deana Anderson of Flora; children: Kerry (Amy) Herdes of Xenia, Pamela Anderson a resident of Bluebird CILA Home in Flora, and Wendi (Daniel) Ufford of Adams, TN; three grandchildren: Bryton, Eliza, and Sarah Ruth; one great-granddaughter: Mia Grace; a sister: Patsy (Norman) Little of Camargo; and mother-in-law: Wanda Gentry (the late Omer P. Gaines) of Flora. Also surviving are brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Nancy Allen; and a brother: William Curtis Anderson.

A Celebration of Life will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2017, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A committal service with the presentation of military honors will be held following the service at Gary’s childhood home, located at 2888 Ironwood Road in Xenia.
