Notes:

Oran "Bub" Harrison, 84, of Clay City, died at 12:55 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, at Clay County Hospital, Flora.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m.,Friday, at the Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Clay City. Bro. Ron Payne will officiate at the services.

Burial will be in Dillman Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.,Thursday, at the funeral home.

Mr. Harrison was born on July 6,1912, in Clay County, the son of Elza "Tot" and Lola (Edwards) Harrison.

He married Marguerite Payne in 1937. She died in 1987. He was a member of the Ingraham Christian Church.

Surviving are one son, Clarence Harrison of Clay City; three daughters and son-in-law, Shirley and David Porter of Louisville, Carolyn and Chuck Woodruff of Pawnee, Audrey

and Ray Miller of Clay City; three brothers, George and Russell Harrison, both of Clay City, Bob Harrison of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Lucille Noblet of Flora, Wanda Franklin of Clay City, and Alvena Brooks of Eunice, N.M.; eleven grandchildren,nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents,wife,four sisters, one brother,one grandchild and one great-grand-child.

Oran married Payne, Lois Marguerite on 11 Sep 1937. Lois (daughter of Payne, James Edward and Byrne, Temperance Charlotte) was born on 24 May 1911 in Sailor Springs, Clay County, Illinois; died on 3 Jun 1987 in Richland County Memorial Hospital, Olney, Richland County, Illinois; was buried in Dillman Cemetery, Sailor Springs, Clay County, Illinois. Notes:

Dempsy Harrison, farmer, P. 0. Clay City, was born in North Carolina, March 26, 1826, and is a son of John G. Harrison (deceased), who removed with his family to East Tennessee when our subject was an infant. They afterward resided in West Tennessee, Kentucky, and in Illinois, near Shawneetown.

While residing at the latter place, the mother died, and the family returned to Kentucky, where the father died, near Paducah, about the year 1835. Dempsy then went to live with his half-brother, Henry Hill, in Daviess County, Ind. He had but limited educational advantages, which consisted of a few terms taught by subscription in a rude log house with split pole seats, and a chimney built (from the joists to the roof) of sticks and clay. The fire-place consisted of a square place cut in the floor and filled with dirt, on which a heap of logs were piled, and the urchins stood all round it to warm themselves.

Mr. Harrison has been successful as a farmer and stock-raiser, and now owns 240 acres of land. He was married November 13, 1845, to Elizabeth Megehee, by whom he has had seven children, viz; living—John G., Martha A., Mary E., William H. and James M.

Mr. Harrison came to this county in 1872. He is a member of the Baptist Church.
