JULIA MAY TUCKER was born in July of either 1884 or 1885 in Noble Township, Richland County, Illinois, USA. She was the daughter of Abraham Douglas Tucker and Clara Caroline Dickey. May's mother Carrie died in 1885 (according to her gravestone)), perhaps when May was born, or perhaps at the birth of another child that did not survive. On 28 Nov 1889, a few years after Carrie's death, May's father Abe married again, to Carrie's first cousin, Elsie Elizabeth Maglone. Elsie had previouslly been married to Abe's first cousin, Hugh M. Tucker, but he also died young and Elsie was left a young widow with a daughter to raise, Laura Tucker. The two daughters, May and Laura, were double second cousins to each other, but now they became step-sisters in the new merged family. They each shared a half-brother when their younger sibling, Corta Emery Tucker, was born in 1893.

May grew up in Noble Township, but when she married Daniel Windle Hemrich on 16 June 1909, in Richland County, Illinois, she moved to nearby Pixley Township, Clay County, Illinois, where Dan worked as a farm laborer. Dan was born 02 Jan 1884 in Jasper County, Illinois, USA, the son of of John W. Hemrich and Josephine Negley. He had previously been married to Pearl Hastler in 1905, but had no children from that union. It is likely that Pearl died young.

After living in Pixley Township for a while, the couple then moved to Noble Village (1920 and 1930 censuses), where Dan worked as a garage machinist and mechanic. Although Dan and May had no children of their own, they helped to raise Dan's niecce Evalena Schnepper after her mother's early death in 1921. By 1942, the couple were back in Pixley Township in Clay County, Illinois and it was there that Dan died on the 25th of October, 1946. He was buried in Hanna Cemetery in Noble Township, Richland County, Illinois two days later. Thirteen years later, in 1959, May also died, and was buried next to her husband

Daniel (son of Hemrich, John W. and Negley, Josephine) was born on 2 Jan 1884 in Jasper County, Illinois; died on 25 Oct 1946 in Pixley Township, Clay County, Illinois; was buried in Hanna Cemetery, Noble, Richland County, Illinois. "This information was retrieved off of a census record. The name is also spelled "Mcgloan"

James Maglone was born in County Monaghan, Ireland in the year of 1782. About 1812 he married Mary Landers, born 01 Nov 1797 (baptised 26 Nov 1797) near Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York). She also died in 1853.

According to granddaughter Mae Wilson, the James Maglones came West during the great Westward movement when the territory was opened and trade was being developed. It was the age of canals and railroad construction. Mary Landers Maglone told her grandchildren that they had lived in the canebreaks of Indiana and that she had washed their clothes in the Patoka River.

James probably labored on the canals while in Indiana. From Indiana they went to the prairie between Olney and Noble, Illinois. He bought land and built a cabin for his family. His boys were big enough to farm so he left his wife and family to care for the farm while he went to Kentucky to work. He was a gardener and did landscape gardening for Henry Clay at Lexington, Kentucky.

When he had saved enough money to buy another forty acres he would return to Illinois and buy another piece of land. He would then go back to Lexington and Frankfort for his gardening.

The land referred to by Mae Wilson is located on highway 250 between Olney and Noble, Illinois and is across the highway from Shiloh #2 cemetery where James Maglone is buried. In the same cemetery is buried his son Thomas Maglone. It is felt that Mary Landers Maglone is also buried there but there is no proof of that.

James married Landers, Mary about 1812. Mary (daughter of Landers, J. and Waddle, E.) was born on 1 Nov 1797 in Poughkeepsie, Duchess County, New York; died in 1853 in Noble, Richland County, Illinois; was buried in Unknown. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
