  • Notes
    • Robert Neal “Bob” Travous, age 90 of Olney, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 31, 2020.

Bob was born on July 30, 1930 south of Noble in Richland County, the oldest son of Allen Leroy “Roy” and Margorie Mildred (Long) Travous.

He married his true love, Ruth Eva Gibson on June 16, 1957 in Noble. She survives.

He joined the US Navy, and following boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois, he was stationed in San Diego on the USS Gregory (DD-802). He worked in the engineering department as a Boiler Technician 3rd Class Petty Officer. He served aboard the Gregory during the Korean War.

He loved the Lord with all his heart and was a member of First Assembly of God in Olney for many years. His love for serving in missions ran deep. He served in Congo, Africa and built a church. While there, he acquired the name of Ewanjo Editto – the Mighty Hunter, when he dropped a cape buffalo with one shot. He built churches and parsonages at Red Bird Mission in Kentucky, and a church in Mexico.

He found fulfillment in hard work and it showed in his quality products. He built custom homes for 43 years. Many of his distinctive and quality houses can still be seen throughout Olney and the surrounding area.

He had a passion for the outdoors, hunting, archery, skeet shooting, antique black powder muzzle loaders, antique cars, taxidermy, collecting, traveling and storytelling. He was a Cub Scout master, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Olney Archery Club, County Line Gun Club, and Olney Antique Car Club.

Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years Ruth (Gibson) Travous of Olney; two sons Allen Travous of Olney and Dale Travous of Olney; one daughter Teresa Hull (Clay) of Indian Valley, Idaho; three sisters-in-law Naomi Travous of Olney, Mary Gibson of Peoria, and Kathy Gibson of Noble; two brothers-in-law Jim Gibson of Olney and Dave Gibson of Noble; five grandchildren, Ashley McCann (Allen), Magen Travous, Ruth Hull, Forrest Hull (Samantha), and Frazier Hull (Christine); 9 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Mildred Travous, one brother Bill Travous, two sisters Betty Lincoln and Norma Travous, and several brothers and sisters-in-laws, and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
