  	In an conversation with Carl Wayne Gray, Wayne stated: "I served in World War II as an infantryman with the 2d Squad, 1st Platoon, Company K, 3d Battalion, 38th Regimental Combat Team, 2d Infantry Division commanded by Colonel Booze. My service number was 36909427. I saw action in Hoellenthal before the Rhine River in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge (December 1944). I was awarded the Sharpshooter Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the World War II Victory Medal, the European Theater Offensive Ribbon with 5 campaign stars, the French Fourragere, and a Presidential Unit Citation."

  Note from Ella Mix: Daddy always claimed both his grandmothers were of Indian descendant can't make that connection He was a retired truck driver and a U.S. Army WWII veteran having served in the African & European Theatre taking part in the D-Day Invasion at Normady. He attended Calvary Baptist Church, was a member of Flora American Legion Post #14, and lifetime member of Flora VFW Post #14 and Flora Moose Lodge.
