- A Celebration of Life for Arthur B. Greathouse will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Community of Christ church in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
Art Greathouse passed away on March 11, 2015 at Cox South Regional Medical Center in Springfield, MO several days after a car accident. He lived a full life of 85 years.
Art was born in Wayne County, Illinois to Keith J. and Maude (Holler) Greathouse on Nov. 8, 1929. He grew up on a farm and became a rough-neck in the oil fields before marrying the love of his life, Dorothy (Milner) Greathouse in 1950. Art joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and later graduated Graceland College and the University of Missouri at Columbia where he received his degree in Chemical Engineering. Art and Dottie were house parents for the medical fraternity and Art was president of the Honorary Chemical Society, Alpha Chi Sigma.
Art worked for Exxon Mobile until his retirement in 1986. During his career Art was the head of Process Engineering at the refinery in Bayonne, N.J. He was advisor to the Junior Achievement Program. In Billings, MT he was in charge of bringing the refinery into compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. He was the team captain to recruit professional graduates from four North Central universities. In Simi Valley, CA he served as Exxon Mobile's public affairs executive. He has been publicly acknowledged for his work with federal, state and local officials, as well as launching a program which awards grants to public school teachers. The positive ramifications of his professional work led to numerous accomplishments which are still in effect today and will continue long into the future. In addition to raising a family and pursuing his career, Art's service to the Lord and his church was a priority. He was known for being generous with both his time and resources as well as for his integrity and honor.
Art retired in 1986, moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas in 1990 and built a home filled with light and love on Norfork Lake. Numerous projects and entertaining his grandsons, nieces and nephews on the lake brought endless days of joy and laughter to the family. He continued to serve his church, was pastor for several years and ordained an evangelist.
Preceding him in death were two older siblings, Stanley E. Greathouse and Wanda Ires, his wife Dorothy, and two sons, John Alan (infant) and Keith Greathouse (42 yrs.). Art is survived by his daughter, Beth Lindley of Ventura, CA and three grandsons, Dale Lindley (Fresno, CA), Dylan Lindley (Beaverton, OR), and Devon Lindley (Ventura, CA) as well as many other close family and friends. He will be deeply missed and will live in their hearts forever.
A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held following Art's Celebration of Life at the Community of Christ church in Mountain Home, AR.
Memorials may be made to the Art and Dottie Greathouse Endowed Scholarship Fund for Graceland University.
