  EDWARD DALE SMITH, 84 of Mt. Vernon, IL, formerly of Johnsonville, IL passed away 12:30AM Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Crossroads Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL. Dale was born February 10, 1930 to Homer and Lillian (Trotter) Smith in Paxton, IL. He married Correna Rich on November 18, 1953 at Sims, IL and she survives. Dale served as a Sergeant in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He served as deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher at Ellis Mound Missionary Baptist Church at Wayne City, IL. He was a charter member of the Johnsonville Ruritan Club. He was a rural mail carrier for Cisne and Johnsonville for almost forty years. He also served as president and vice-president of Baltimore Cemetery Association at Wayne City, IL. Dale is survived by his wife Correna and five children – Michael Dale (Sheila) Smith; Mark Edward (Renee) Smith; Monty Joe (Denise) Smith; Marlena "Susy" (Terry) Krutsinger, and Marty Lyn (Pam) Smith; and one sister Gnell Wood. Nineteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Paul, one sister Joyce and one son Murry. The funeral was held at the Ellis Mound Missionary Baptist Church. Directions to the church is 3 miles south of Interstate 64 at the Wayne City exit then 3.5 miles down the Aden Road. Burial was in the Baltimore Cemetery at Wayne City, IL. Full military rites will be at the graveside. Memorials may be given to Ellis Mound Missionary Baptist Church.
