    • Geneva Wilson, 100, of Salem, formerly of Clay City, passed away on November 3, 2013, in Salem , Illinois.
      She was born on March 2, 1913, to James Thurman Mitchell and Lilie (Osterman) Mitchell.
      She married Bernard McDowell and he preceded her in death. She then married Gerald Wilson on August 2, 1958, in Clay City and he also precedes her in death.
      Geneva earned her teachers certificate at Eastern Illinois University and went on to teach at several local schools in the Noble-Wynoose area. She was also a piano teacher and played piano at church; as well as being a Sunday School teacher for many years. Geneva enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was very involved in her church and supported foreign and domestic missionary work. In her later years, she was active at the nursing home where she resided, Doctors Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Salem and enjoyed participating in the church services. She took pleasure in socializing with the staff and residents.
      Geneva is survived by her daughter, Vivian Brooks; daughter, Barb Shock; stepson, Darrell Wilson and wife, Margie; stepson, Brig. Gen. (RET) James (Kim) Wilson and wife, Karen; stepdaughter, Dorothy Lane; stepdaughter, Vanessa Wilson; 18 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 38 great- great-grandchildren and two great-great-great- grandchildren; sister, June Rariden and numerous nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands and two brothers, Glen and Joy Mitchell.
      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forrest Ridge Cemetery or Clay City Christian Church.
