- Morris George Colwell, 73, of rural Newton, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014, at his home.
Funeral services at Crain Funeral Home in Newton. Burial in West Lawn Cemetery in Newton with military rites accorded by Jasper Post No. 20 of the American Legion.
Morris was born September 21, 1940, in Newton, the son of George E. and Lucille (Phillips) Colwell. He married Julia A. Ahlfield on March 28, 1964. She survives.
Morris served his country in the U.S. Army. He spent his life working in construction, retiring as a union laborer. His memberships include Jasper Post No. 20 of the American Legion, life member of Newton Masonic Lodge No. 216 A.F. & A.M., Chapter No. 497 Order of the Eastern Star, and the Valley of Danville 32nd degree.
He will be loved and remembered by his wife of 50 years, Julia Colwell, of Newton; sons, Brian Colwell and wife Julie, of Effingham, and Brad Colwell and wife Missy, of Newton; one grandson, Miles Colwell, of Norman, Okla.; sisters, Katherine Clark and husband Chester, of Mt. Grove, Mo., Rhonda Schwarz, of Del Ray Beach, Fla., Shirley Alexander and husband Claude, of Overland Park, Kan., and Carol Miller and husband Darold, of Newton.
Mr. Colwell was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donald and Roy Colwell.
