      George W. Lee, 81

      Belvidere - George W. Lee, 81, a lifelong belvedere resident, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2005, in Neighbors Nursing Home in Byron. He was born June 8, 1923, in souther Illinois to Ivan and Naomi (Waller) Lee. he attended school in southern Illinois. George married Velma Soine in 1946 in Cisne; she died in 1958 [sic 1959]. In 1964, he married Elma Paul in Durand; she died in 1997. George served fir tears ub the U.S. Army, transporting troops and supplies while stationed in England during World War II; he received the Bronze Star for his service. George loved our country, and showed that through is deep patriotism. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the VFW. George was known for handing out gum, candy, or whatever he had in his pocket to the neighborhood kids. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and they were very special to him.

      Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, in First Baptist Church, Belvidere, with the Rev. Rex Rogers officiating. Burial in Charter Oak Cemetery.
