SKETCH OF MRS. POWELL
(Mary Ann Brand Powell)
Mary Ann, daughter of Sandy and Mary Ann Brand, was born in county of Fife, Scotland, June 4th, 1862. She came to America with her parents at the age of 6 and located on a farm near Jeffersonville. Here she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage with Tobias B. Powell April 3rd, 1883. Seven children were born to this union, two little sons having died in early childhood. A daughter, Florence, died in 1908 and another daughter, Mrs. Fronia Bowles, preceded her in death in 1913.
The companion passed away August 21st, 1946. Many years ago she confessed her faith n Christ and united with the Cisne Christian church, where she retained her membership throughout her life.
After several months illness she entered peacefully into rest at the home of her son, Johnnie, near Fairfield, early Saturday morning, March 22nd, 1947, age 84 years, 9 months and 18 days. She is survived by two sons, Charlie of Pekin and Johnnie of Fairfield; one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Haney of Evansvlle, Ind., 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and lone sister, Mrs. Sophronia Johnson of Fairfield.
Funeral services were conducted from the Cisne Christian church March 24th by Elder W.D. Crippin. Interment was in the Cisne cemetery.
