- Bonnie Bernice Powell, 89 of Pekin, formerly of South Pekin, passed away at 7:25 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at Timbercreek Rehab and Health Center in Pekin.
Born June 29, 1928 in Pierson, IL to Jake and Mabel (Fortner) Bonham, she married Vernon Gene Powell on December 24, 1948 in Pekin. He died December 14, 1998 in Pekin. Also preceding her in death are her parents; one son Ronnie Powell on August 23, 1984 in Washington Park, IL; one grandson, Brian Powell; one granddaughter, Jill Powell; three brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are two daughters, Alice (John) Skaggs of South Pekin and Linda Jobe of Marquette Heights; one son, Vernon G. Powell, Jr. of Granite City; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A homemaker, Bonnie enjoyed walking and playing Bingo at the UAW Senior Citizen Center.
Her graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Green Hill Cemetery in rural San Jose. Pastor Tom Pisano will officiate. There will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
