- Eli Longbons Sams, 22, of Albion, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012, due to a traffic accident.
Funeral services at Little Prairie Christian Church Family Life Center, west of Albion. Burial in Graceland Cemetery in Albion.
Eli was born June 21, 1990, in Mt. Vernon. His parents are Ellen (Longbons) Sams and the late Larry Sams, who preceded him in death on April 1, 1998.
Although Eli was diagnosed at the age of 6 weeks with Cystic Fibrosis, he lived an active life. He had an associate's degree from Wabash Valley College, was a 4-H member and loved to hunt. He refereed for the Upward Basketball Program at Little Prairie Christian Church. He enjoyed playing basketball and softball-slow-pitch. He was on the soccer traveling team in junior high. He was also a devoted Red Sox fan. He worked on an assembly line at Champion Laboratories.
He is survived by his mother, Ellen; sister, Lydia Sams, of Albion; grandparents, Gerald and Leatrice Longbons, of Albion, and Lydia (Winter) Sams, of Fairfield; maternal Aunts and Uncles, Lesa (Rick) Etheridge, of Albion, Sheila (Sam) Smith, of Albion, and Cindy (Vic) Lowe, of Lincoln; paternal Aunts and Uncles, Don Atwood, of Wayne City, Carolyn (Dennis) Dozier, of Fairfield, Betty Jo Madding, of Tennessee, Steve (Jamie) Sams, of Fairfield, Carroll (Julie) Sams, of Johnsonville, and Janet (Scott) Talbert, of Geff.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Sams; grandfather, Leroy Sams; grandmother, Vera Longbons, and Aunt, Glenna Atwood.
