- C.W. "Shorty" Schoen, 72, of Bluford, Illinois passed away at 10:55 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, at home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pagel Funeral Home, Edgewood, Illinois with Pete Lake officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Jefferson County Humane Society, American Lung Association or the donor's choice.
Shorty was born on Nov. 2, 1940, in Champaign, Illinois, the son of Russell D. and Alberta (Matlock) Schoen. He married Joyce Metcalf on Sept. 7, 1996, at Bluford United Methodist Church, Bluford, Illinois.
Shorty was a U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran. Shorty was a farmer, OTR truck driver and a welder. He was a member of the Edgewood American Legion Post 1168 and Draft Horse Association, a past member of D.A.V. and was affiliated with the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed farming and raising horses and was an infamous story teller.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Schoen of Bluford, Illinois; daughter, Tammi Withrow (special friend, Jim Hale) of Mount Vernon, Illinois; sons, Russell B. Schoen and Willie (wife, Maggie) Schoen, both of Bluford, Illinois; stepdaughter, Marcie Dawn Snyder of Stewardson, Illinois; stepsons, Davie Gene Chapman of Bluford, Illinois; and Leslie Dale (wife, Debbie) Chapman of Centralia, Illinois; sister, Vicki (husband, Mike) Edwards of Centralia, Illinois; nieces, Shannon (Cook) Shelley of Shiloh, Illinois; and Alisa Rogers of East Peoria, Illinois; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one due in a month; four great-stepgrandchildren; two Belgian horses; five dogs and two cats.
Preceding him in death were his parents; grandparents, Clyde and Alta (Hites) Schoen and Roy and Ruth (Allen) Matlock; son, Robert C. Schoen; grandson, Tyler Shafer; and great-stepgranddaughter, Jocelyn.

Shorty was first married to Mary Vibert of Villa Grove, IL. She is the mother of his first 3 children: Russell B, Tamara E, & Robert C.
He was married to Mary Lou (Ray) Bierman and she is the mother of his son Willie.
