    Located on the south side of the city library, this is a copy of the brochure honoring that event.

    • Donald S. Myers, 94, formerly of Sugar Grove, passed away April 30, 2012, at The Birches in Clarendon Hills, Ill. He was born Sept. 18, 1917, in Sugar Grove, the son of the late Nelson and Stella (Seavey) Myers.

      Don served his country during WWII with the US Army Air Corps as a flight instructor. He earned his master's degree from Northern Illinois University and was employed with Kaneland School District before moving on to teach at McCleery Elementary School, where he retired in 1970.

      He also enjoyed working at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, Wesley United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church as choir director over the years. After retirement, Don worked as a woodworker and weaver at Hackley House Antiques in Phelps, Wis., a shop he owned and ran with his wife of nearly 71 years, Mary Jean Stanton.

      Don is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jean Myers; his daughters, Margaret (Lynn Schreiner) Gramley of Elgin, Ill., and Elizabeth (Bill) Chalberg of Downers Grove, Ill.; his grandchildren, Philip (Christine) Gramley, Steven (Leanne) Gramley, Jack Chalberg, Cassie Chalberg, George (Audrey) Chalberg and Bill (Sarah) Chalberg Jr.; his great grandchildren, Robert Gramley, Lillian Gramley, Keegan Chalberg, Connor Chalberg and Grace Chalberg; his sister, Phyllis Leighton of Tempe, Ariz.

      In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Goodfellow.

      A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 2, at 2 p.m. at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, 176 Main St., Sugar Grove. Visitation will take place from 1 p.m. at the church until the time of service. Interment will take place at Sugar Grove Cemetery.
