  Vernon G. Powell, 73, of 316 S. Fourth St. died at 10:52 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at Beechwood Health Care Center. Born April 30, 1925, in Mackinaw to Charles and Bessie Beckel Powell, he married Bonnie Bonham on Dec. 24, 1948 in Pekin. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Alice Skaggs of South Pekin and Linda Jobe of Marquette Heights; two sons, Vernon Powell Jr. of Cahokia and Jack Gordon of Elsberry, Missouri; four brothers, Robert and Harold, both of Pekin, Charles of Peoria and Carl of San Antonio and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, one granddaughter, one sister, one brother, and one son, Ronnie Powell in 1984. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a truckdriver for Hall Transport for many years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Eagles Aerie Lodge 1869. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, San Jose.
