Henry was living with his mother and stepfather in Flora, when he enlisted in the Marines 11 July 1968, at a recruiting office in St Louis, Missouri.
When Henry arrived in Vietnam 15 May 1970, he was assigned to H&S Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. While out an operation the command post was moving out, when a hostile booby trap was detonated, at approximately 1745H. Henry and another Marine were wounded and med-evac. Henry was being given medical treatment aboard the USNH Sanctuary, when he died as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds to the body , at approximately 1940H.
Survived by his stepfather and mother, Jim and Elvera J Flextur of Route #3, Flora, Illinois and his father; Henry Eugene Copley Sr of unknown address and his grandparents; Albert B and Alma E Casolari of Illinois.
It appears that his mother divorced and remarried.
