- Lydia Louise (nee Renfro) Collins of Flora, IL was called to her eternal home on May 11, 2011 at the age of 84.
She was born on August 28, 1926 in St. Louis, MO to Earnest W. and Vera E. (nee Atkinson) Renfro. Lydia was united in marriage to Harold J. Collins on November 14, 1942 in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death on May 21, 1992.
They were blessed with 49 years of marriage and four children: Bill, Harla, Jim, and Tom.
Lydia attended school in St. Louis, MO. After her marriage to Harold, they led a military life for twenty-two years traveling throughout the United States along with living in Bermuda and England. After the military, Lydia helped run a gas station, farmed, and in her later years worked for Old Warson Country Club in La Due, MO as a cook in the tea house.
Upon retirement, she and Harold lived in Phoenix, AZ for one year then returned to St. Louis and later retired to Flora, IL where they enjoyed living on the Country Club grounds.
Lydia enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and researching and creating the family tree for the family to enjoy. She took great pleasure in her later years watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
Left to cherish the memories of Lydia is her children: Bill Collins and wife Sue of Puryear, TN, Harla Wehde of St. Louis, MO, Jim Collins and wife Diana of St. Charles, MO, Tom Collins of Flora; 6 grandchildren: Dennis (Mary Beth) Collins, Lance Collins, Chris (Eric) Roddiger, Becky (T.J.) Vaughn, Stephanie (Jason) Merrill; Jim Jr. (Jodi) Collins; 12 great-grandchildren: Carter, Abby, Ollie, Rase, Ryder, Rowdy, Grace, Madeline, Natalie, Gavin, Caroline and Cooper; brothers: Harold Renfro and wife Donette of Lovington, John Renfro and wife Jane of Lovington, Hiram Renfro of Donnellson; sister: Vickie Staer and husband David of Ohio; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Robert Renfro.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, May, 16, 2011, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, IL with Chaplain Eric Williams officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM Sunday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora.
Memorials are suggested to VNA TIP Hospice of Centralia, IL.
