- Thomas Adam "Tom" Buerster was born January 7, 1938 in Clay Co., IL to Adam Carl and Monica Margaret (Kuenstler) Buerster. He married Martha (Weishaar) Buerster on June 13, 1964 in Island Grove, IL. She survives him in his death.
Tom was a 50 year member of the Ste. Marie American Legion Post #932 and Knights of Columbus Third Degree Member Council #1704 Newton and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin.
Tom enlisted in the US Army Reserve in 1960 and served six years. He was a lifelong farmer and had helped with the family trucking business from 1953-1968. During the winters he would work at Newton Implement setting up equipment. Tom also served on the Denver Twp. and Richland County Boards. He served on various committees at the Holy Cross Church.
Tom enjoyed trapshooting and talking on the CB with the handle "Sugar Foot". He especially enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids and taking walks with his dog, Roxy.
Thomas Adam "Tom" Buerster is survived by wife of 57 years, Martha Buerster of Noble; daughter, Joan Weber and husband John Carey of Mason, IL; son, Kenneth Buerster and wife Karen of Newton, IL; son, Alan Buerster and wife Krista of Noble, IL; daughter, Janet Grunloh and husband John V. of Island Grove, IL; son, Gary Buerster of Newton, IL and special friend Lindsey Tompson; daughter, Joyce Dietrich and husband Shane of Geneseo, IL; grandchildren, Lauren (Seth) Michels, Alicia Buerster, Ryan Buerster, Malorie Buerster, Maison Buerster, John A. Grunloh, Josie Grunloh, Monica Buerster, Drew Buerster, Darci (Ethan) Harrison, Heather Dietrich; brother, Paul Buerster; sisters, Mary Jane Keller and Theresa Ritz; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents; grandson, Eric Dietrich; sisters, Edith McDonald, Anna Lou Stone, Rita Proctor, and infant sister, Eunice Buerster.
Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney is in charge of arrangements. A Visitation will be held on November 29, 2021, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on November 30, 2021 at Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Interment will take place following services at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Full Military Rites will be performed at the Graveside.
