- Walter "Ray" Ames, 83, of Clay City, passed away August 14, 2020 at his residence.
Walter "Ray" Ames was born July 15, 1937 in Crawford Co., IL to Walter Ray Ames, Sr. and Catherine (DeWitt).
He married the love of his life, his best friend, Vera "Pat" (Sampson) on April 18, 1983 and Vera preceded him in death on December 23, 2016.
Ray was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was proud of his NRA membership and enjoyed trap shooting. Ray took pleasure in watching all sports, especially baseball and football.
Walter "Ray" Ames is survived by his son, Steve Ames and wife Connie of Oblong; son, Larry Garrard and wife Jeanie of Oblong and their children; son, Robert Taylor and wife Patty of Salem, IL; daughter, Debbie McCarthy and husband Elmo of Rinard, IL; daughter, Mary Cole and husband Robert of Clay City; daughter, Gaitha Miller of Noble; grandchildren, Billy King, Jeremy King, Matthew McCarthy, Christopher McCarthy, Kelsie Frederick, Amber Sanders, Cassandra Lagle, Nichol (Doug) Britton, Kasey Taylor, Dustin (Heather) Taylor, Katie (Brandon) Stanley, and Haley Miller; and several great grandchildren;.
Walter "Ray" Ames was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Linda Stanford; sons, Mike and Ron Garrard; and sister, Louise Edgington.
Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Clay City is in charge of arrangements. A funeral will be at 1:00 PM on August 17, 2020 at KPFH - Clay City. A visitation will be at 11:00 AM on August 17,2020 at KPFH- Clay City.
Interment will take place on August 17, 2020 at Clay City Cemetery.
