  Mona M. Powell, 70, of Clay City, died 9:10 p.m. Wednesday (June 16, 1999) in St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham. Mrs. Powell was born in Marion County on Feb. 18, 1929, the daughter of Cecil and Lillie Black Shreffler. She was a homemaker, a member of Clay City United Methodist Church and Clay City American Legion Auxiliary and was a former member of Clay City school board. She married Hartzel L. Powell in Henderson, Ky., on March 22, 1948. He preceded her in death on July 20, 1996. Surviving are her sons, Steve Powell and wife Senny of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; Lowell Powell and wife Joan of Hecker; daughters, Sandra Kraft and husband Larry of Smithton; Sherry Hall and husband Mike of Dundas; sisters, Wanda Eagan of Kinmundy; Nelda Mullins of Valparaiso, Ind.; grandchildren; Mathew and Laura Kraft, Emily, Olivia, Eloise, Hart, Hamilton, Hudson and Daniel Powell; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, two brothers, three infant children and one grandson. Services were in Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Clay City, with the Rev. Tony Dyer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kinmundy. Memorials: American Cancer Society. (Published Decatur Herald)
