  • Notes
    • Terry Homer Britton, age 54, of Sailor Springs, Illinois, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023, in Houston, Texas.

Homer was born May 12, 1969, in Flora, the son of Homer Larry and Mary Jane (Walker) Britton. He was united in marriage to Amy Jo Allison on April 21, 1989, and together they have shared 34 wedding anniversaries.

He was employed by Illinois Gas Company and was owner/operator of THB, Inc. in Sailor Springs. In his earlier years he worked in the oil fields, and liked to coon and bird hunt, as well as play softball. Homer’s favorite ways to spend his time throughout life would usually involve horses, including riding, going to sales, and sharing stories about these beautiful creatures. He was a longtime member of the Illinois Quarter Horse Association. He especially enjoyed exploring the Shawnee National Forest on horse, and looked forward to group family and friend vacations each year. Time spent with his grandchildren was truly prized, including great memories made with them on horseback along the River to River Trail.

Those who knew Homer can attest to his giving spirit, dedication to helping young people, fierce loyalty to friends and family, and staying strong and steadfast to his convictions. Saying that he was type of man that would “give the shirt off of his back” is an understatement.

He is survived by his wife: Amy Jo Britton of Sailor Springs; a daughter: Amanda (Rusty) Troyer of Calhoun; a son: Reese Britton of New Berlin, Wisconsin; 3 grandchildren: Tuff Troyer and Rowdy Troyer of Calhoun, and Paige Troyer of Parkersburg; a brother: Jerry Britton of Sailor Springs; 2 sisters: Sherry (Thomas Foreman) Johnson-Foreman and Carrie (Carrol) Lee of Clay City; several nieces and nephews; mother-and-father-in-law: Deanna and Larry Allison of Clay City; a sister-in-law: Shelley (Scott) Schnepper of Clay City; and a bonus sister: Chris Childers of Louisville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law: Marty Johnson.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. A committal ceremony will follow in Hoosier Prairie Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to your choice of the Clay County Cancer Support Group or Hoosier Prairie Cemetery, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.
