    On Veterans' Day, 2005, the city of Flora, Illinois dedicated a memorial to all known Clay County, Illinois World War II Veterans.

    Located on the south side of the city library, this is a copy of the brochure honoring that event.

    • EBER O. WILSON, Age 88 of Flora,IL formerly of Johnsonville,IL passed away at 4:54 PM; Friday, August 10, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Regional Health Center at Mt. Vernon, IL. He was born on April 3, 1919 at Keenes to Otis & Audra (Garrison) Wilson. He married Ruth M. McQueen on Oct. 31, 1937 at St. Charles, MO and she preceded him in death on October 24, 2000.

      He retired as a clerk at the Otis Wilson Store in Johnsonville, IL. He was a member of the Johnsonville United Methodist Church, a Veteran of WW II where he was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge in 1945. During war he received various medals for his various acts of courage. He received a Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal. For his wound at the Battle of the bulge he received a Purple Heart.

      He was a lifetime member of the DAV at Centralia, IL; lifetime member of the American Legion & the VFW both of Flora, IL and was a member of the Elks Lodge in Flora, IL. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.

      Surviving Eber are: 1 Sister – Bernita Barnfield of Cisne and Several Neices and Nephews, and a special friend Lloyd Clements of Johnsonville, IL He was preceded in death by: His Wife, 1 Infant Sister & His Parents. Funeral services for Eber Wilson will be at 10:00AM Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007 at Hosselton Funeral Home with burial at Johnsonville Cemetery. There will be military services at the graveside. Visitation will be held from 6-8Pm Monday at the funeral home.

      Memorials may be made to the Activity Fund at the Flora Gardens Nursing Home at Flora, IL.
