    On Veterans' Day, 2005, the city of Flora, Illinois dedicated a memorial to all known Clay County, Illinois World War II Veterans.

    Located on the south side of the city library, this is a copy of the brochure honoring that event.

    • Cletis E. "Pete" Coble, of Flora, IL died Aug. 19, 1993,at Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney, IL.

      He was born July 27, 1912 in Clay County, the son of Alonzo & Grace Moats Coble. He married Luella Flexter in 1935.

      He was a retired employee of B & O Railroad where he worked for over 33 years, a WWII Army Vetaran, Purple Heart recipient, member of the Flora Church of the Nazarene, Flora VFW and the D.A.V. Olney Chapter and a member of the Flora American Legion.

      Surviving is his widow, Luella; sons, Roger & Charles; a daughter Cleta Rahe; a sister, Audrey Gordon; and as well as nieces and nephews.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, five brothers, and two sisters.

      Services were at the Flora Nazarene Church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery with military rites.

      Frank & Bright Funeral Home was in charge.
