- Enlisted and entered active service on May 11, 1939. Completed boot camp at Naval Training Station, San Diego, California. Served aboard or at the Lapwing/Bird Class Minesweeper USS Grebe AM-43; Escambia Class Fleet Oiler USS Pasig AO-89; Small Craft Training Center, Terminal Island, California; and the Raven/Auk Class Mine Craft USS Champion AM-314. Honorably discharged as a Gunner's Mate First Class in February 1946 at U.S. Naval Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Earned the American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal and The WWII Victory Medal.
