  He grew up in New Palestine, Indiana and graduated from Moral High School. Rev Brooks graduated from Clear Creek Baptist College and also attended the University of Kentucky. He was a Southern Baptist Minister for 35 years, and served as Pastor at: Fonde Baptist Church in Fonde, KY; Elkhorn City Baptist Church in Elkhorn City, KY; Faith Baptist Church in Caney, KY; Hinson's Crossroads Baptist Church in Fair Bluff, NC; and Pine Crest Baptist Church in Andrews, SC from 1994 until 1998. Rev. Brooks was a member and deacon at the First Baptist Church, Andrews.
