  • Notes 
    • Richard Lewis was a son of John Lewis (1720-1802) and Priscilla Brooks (1725-1797). He served in the Revolution.

      Richard married around 1779 to Lydia Field (1762-1852), a daughter of William Field, Jr. (bef.1727-1805) his wife Lydia Elswick, (1743-c.1829). Richard and Lydia moved to Indiana around 1809, and were early settlers in Floyd Co.

      They had eleven children:

      1. Lydia Lewis (1780-1854) married William Erwin (1777-1837), both are buried in Hoosier Prairie Cemetery, Clay County, Illinois.

      2. Jonathan Lewis (1783-1817) married Sarah McCaun in Clarke Co., Indiana in 1811.

      3. John Lewis (1785-1822) married Martha Jyles in Randolph Co., NC in 1809.

      4. William Harrison Lewis (1787-1844) married Mary Julian in Ranolph Co., NC in 1808, married second to Susan Elizabeth Colclasure/Colglazier in Orange Co., Indiana in 1816. Died in Clay County, Illinois.

      5. Robert Lewis (1789-1843) married Vaney (Lavinia?) Cude in Randolph Co., NC in 1810. Died in Floyd Co., Indiana.

      6. Richard Lewis, Jr. (1791-1833) married Lavinia Wall in Randolph Co., NC in 1809. Died in Floyd Co., Indiana.

      7. Priscilla Lewis (1793-1831) married John Scott in Clarke Co., Indiana in 1813. Buried here near her parents.

      8. Jane Lewis (1796-1863) married Tilghman Clark in Floyd Co., Indiana in 1820. Buried here near her parents.

      9. Lavinia Lewis (1799-1821)

      10. Crawford Lewis (1801-1841) married Elizabeth Neeld in Clark Co., Indiana in 1824, died Clay Co., Illinois.

      11. David Lewis (1806-1885) married Clarissa W. Thompson (1810-1875). Died in Floyd Co., Indiana. Buried here near his parents.
