- Ruby Evelyn (Powless) McGannon died peacefully on April 15, 2007 in her room at Bellevue Nursing Home at the age of 92. Born in Cisne, Illinois in 1914, Ruby was the only daughter of James and Daisy Powless. Although Alzheimer's disease took her memory, Ruby's quiet, gentle spirit and sense of humor never left. She spent her life truly devoted to her family and enjoyed bowling, bingo, Remington Park and trips to Las Vegas. She outlived her entire family including her four brothers, Elmer, Roy, Cecil and Floyd. In 1933, she married John J. McGannon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flora, Illinois and celebrated 58 years of marriage before he died in 1991. Her daughter-in-law, Toni McGannon and step grandson, Larry Stoddard also preceded her death. She is survived by her two sons, Mike (Susan) and Tom (Michelle); two grandchildren, Missy (Jason) Lynch and Michael McGannon; two step grandchildren, Rev. Stephen V. Hamilton and John Hamilton; and two great-grandchildren, Kelly and Ryan Lynch. The long goodbye is finally over. May she rest peacefully in the arms of our Heavenly Father. A memorial service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery Chapel on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 2:00 p.m.
