  Lewis Stanford, son of Abraham and Eliza Stanford was born in Lafayette, Tippacanoe county, IN on December 20, 1842, and departed this life at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Ehlers in Stanford township on August 28, 1934 age 91years, 8 months and 8 days. He was one of a family of eight children all of whom have preceded him in death except one sister, Mrs. Eliza Monroe. He was untied in marriage to Rosanna Fromery, in Stanford township on April 2, 1863. To this union were born nine children, eight sons and one daughter. Three sons died in infancy and one son, Abraham died in 1901. Four sons, Alvin, Elias, Andrew and Eugene and one daughter, Mrs. May Ehlers, survive him. He was town clerk for a long period and served his township as supervisor for 12 years. During this time he was appointed on the Building Committee of the present Clay county court house.
