He was a Korean War veteran, past president of the Clay County Farm Bureau, 4-H leader and Mason for 50 years, member of the Anthony Dorthery #1111 in Cisne, past president of the Clay County Shrine and Widgets, secretary and treasurer for Widgets, Clay County Citizen of the Year in 2000, member of the Clay City American Legion, Week-enders Camping Group, 32nd degree Shriner and Sod Busters.
