(A recreation area at Carlyle Lake was named after Wayne. The ceremony was conducted by Lt. Col. John S. Wilkes III of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Army named the campground site in honor of Wayne who served as a career employee for the Corps for eleven years until his untimely death.)
