- Clinton Isom Petty, 84, died peacefully at his home in Reflection Ridge Retirement , Wichita, KS on October 24, 2022. He was born September 13, 1938, in Mt. Erie, Illinois to Harl and Alta Petty. On June 15, 1957, he married the love of his life, Donna Rae Christy in Hutchinson, KS. He was retired from IBM, a Navy veteran, and a member of Northside Church of Christ, Wichita.
Clint spent his entire life pursuing to be a better person and in the encouragement of others. Clint loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and later his great-grandchildren. He entertained all with his stories, his jokes, his light teasing and his duck noises. Since the passing of his beloved wife two years ago, he devoted himself to greeting every resident in his complex by name at every meal, encouraging the young servers at dinner, and to the teaching of a weekly Bible study.
Clint entered the Navy at 17 to pursue a better life. His Navy life would give him discipline and stability and it would lead him to the Hutchinson Naval Air Base. He soon met his future wife and she introduced him to a closer relationship with Jesus which would impact how he lived the rest of his life.
After serving in the Navy, based out of KeyWest, FL, he returned to Hutchinson to the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard and was in charge of the Hydraulics Department. Later he would be reassigned to Topeka as a ground instructor to retrain Vietnam helicopter pilots for reconnaissance missions. In 1968, he went to work for IBM as a Customer Service Engineer and in 1970 moved to Great Bend where he would work on office machines in most of western Kansas for the next seven years before being transferred to Hutchinson. Later he would be become a Field Manager and eventually the Assistant Branch Manager in the Wichita office for the Service Division of IBM. After 25 years of service, Clint retired from IBM and increased his roles at church and as a Grandpa. He and Donna moved to Dodge City in 1999 to be closer to their grandchildren and all their activities in the Macksville and Minneola school districts.
In 2004 they moved to Enid, OK and returned to Kansas in 2014. Clint would serve as a Bible class teacher and Deacon, and served as an Elder in three congregations they attended....
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Harl Jr., William and Gerald, sisters Patricia Jackson, Lou Petty and Sue Lenear.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. in Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, KS. Family Visitation will be an hour prior to services. Interment following services in Peace Creek Cemetery, Stafford County. Friends may call from 9 am to 8 pm Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
