  • Notes
    • Oldest child of seven born to Julia Gordon & Dennis Handley. Alice married first to Wade Travis, son of Hannah White & Noah Travis, on February 28th, 1881, Clay Co., IL. The couple had two children together: Melissa & Frank E Travis. The 1880 Clay Co., IL census shows her & her two children living with her widowed mother Julia Handley & lists her as married. the couple clearly divorced, however, as Wade Travis remarried to Mary E Bennett on February 28th, 1881 in Champaign Co., IL. (Wade fathered six additional children with Mary Bennett).

Mary Alice wed for a second time (the record is poorly transcribed) to George Allen Eddy, son of Allen Eddy with his second wife Harriet Gordon, on December 22nd, 1881, Kane Co., IL. (There is no census listing for the couple in 1900). They had no known children of their own but "adopted" two: Frances Perry & Frederick Hope. (Frances formally took the Eddy name in the 1910's but Fred kept his Hope surname). After her death, George lived with his two adopted children & son Fred's wife Gladys but later remarried on December 24th, 1920, Kane Co., IL to Millie née Henry Mills.

Of her children with Wade Travis:
1). Melissa Travis (1871 Clay Co., IL- 1950 Republic, MI, not on FAG) m. Charles W Simon on July 9th, 1891,Kane Co., IL. The couple moved to Michigan & had two children: Bertha & Floyd.
2). Frank E Travis (21 Jan 1875 Clay Co., IL- 28 Feb 1941 Lily Lake, IL, #55560384) m. Nora E Mitchell on March 21st, 1898, Kane Co., IL. The couple had one child: Harry C.

Of her adopted children with George Eddy:
3). Frederick Humble Hope (14 Oct 1894 Chicago, IL- 23 Sept 1948 Stephenson Co., IL, buried in Chicago, #157278717) m. Gladys F née unknown, with whom he had two sons: William F & John.
4). Frances Perry (c. 1903- ?, last record found was the 1920 census, in which she'd taken the Eddy surname).

Note: George's death record transcribed his middle initial as H, which was used when creating the FAG memorial, though his marker correctly shows George Allen.
