  Velda Mae Zimmerle, 85, of Olney, Illinois, died on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at her residence. Velda was born on May 7, 1936 in Clay County, Illinois, the daughter of Addison Fitzgerald and Bessie (Allwood) Fitzgerald. Later she married Robert Zimmerle, and he preceded her in death on October 13, 1992. Velda enjoyed flower gardening, going for walks, and collecting dolls. She had a strong work ethic and worked hard. Velda was very independent but took pleasure in spending time with her family. Velda Mae Zimmerle is survived by sons, Wayne Zimmerle; Kenneth Zimmerle; Galen Zimmerle; William David Zimmerle; William (Zoe Kincaid) Gaither, Jr.; John Gaither; and Merle Gaither; daughter, Mary (Brian) Fletcher; grandchildren, Holly and Joseph; sister, Gertrude Fry of Sorento, IL; Ruth Webb of Olney and brother, Emery (MaryEllen) Fitzgerald of Sorento, IL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Zimmerle; long time companion, Bill Gaither; daughter, Diane Zimmerle; and sister, Irma Gene Webb. A funeral service for Velda will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with a visitation beginning one-hour prior. Interment will follow at Maple Dale Cemetery in Olney.
