  Veteran of the Civil War. Born in VA. Served as a Sergeant in Co. A, 11th Virginia Cavalry, CSA and later in Co. A, 67th Virginia Militia, CSA. One of 13 known Confederate soldiers buried in Clay Co., IL - Mike Rinehart ********* Martinsburg, Berkeley County, Virginia where John William Satterfield was born became part of newly created West Virginia, in 1863, during the Civil War. John William Satterfield was the youngest son of Thomas Satterfield (1785-1859) and his wife Lydia (Robinson) Satterfield. Following the Civil War John William Satterfield followed his elder brother The Rev. Thomas Robinson Satterfield to the state of Illinois. Later Reverend Thomas Satterfield removed from Illinois to Los Angeles, California where he became a renowned minister in Southern California.
