- Entered active service as a draftee on February 2, 1943 at Chicago, Illinois. Selected for the Air Corps, completed basic training, attended the Armament Service School at Santa Anita, California and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Aircraft Armorer (911). Departed the U.S. on December 21, 1943 bound for duty in the Caribbean. Assigned to and served with the B-26 Martin Marauder-equipped 4th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron in the Antilles Air Command. Earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal and WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Corporal on November 16, 1945 at the Separation Base, Santa Anna, California.
